2019+ 4th Gen Mazda Tuning
For the 2019 model years, Mazda unveiled a lot of changes to their already impressive lineup of vehicles.
Many of these changes were aesthetic in nature, with a complete facelift of the Mazda 3 and 6.
What may be unknown to a lot of owners and enthusiasts, is that Mazda also made a lot of changes behind the scenes of their 4th Generation Skyactivs. This has resulted in many challenges for tuners and software developers to maintain support for the platform.

Starting in 2018, Mazda released the very first implementation of their 2.5T engine. Designed to further improve on their ability to combine performance and fuel economy, the turbo Skyactiv engine was a huge excitement for the marketed audience.
A new series of engine peripherals required elevated levels of control by the ECU, and a new generation of ECU was developed by Mazda engineers. The 2018 models were given a hybrid between the two, upgraded firmware and tables to control the 2.5T turbo engine, but the same communication protocols as the 3rd Generation.
That began to change mid-year in 2018.
The newest gen ECUs required different communication protocols to complement their advanced capabilities. Like all new things, this required 3rd parties to play catch up.
The Mitsubishi ECU proved easy to crack, and was available for tuning support right away, unlike the Denso ECU which took a tremendous development effort and years of work to prove successful.
DRTuned Racing is currently the only tuner in North America offering tuning support for ALL 2019+ 4th Gens, including Mitsubishi and Denso ECUs.
